Rotary Club of Gold Beach * Meeting each Wednesday at noon at Grants * January 28, 2009 * Meeting #28
Today's Program: Kevin Swift, Gold Beach High Athletic Director
Club Report: Club Report: The board met last Wednesday. David Allen was welcomed back to the board as the Past President/Vice President. Thanks David! Remember, every member is welcome to attend our Board meetings, a great way to make up a missed meeting and learn about future plans for the club.
High on Health: Plans are coming together for the High on Health Fundraiser which will be held on April 25, 2009 at the Event Center. This is a coordinated effort between our club and the Curry Health Foundation. Marlyn Schafer has graciously volunteered to be the Rotary Chair this year but this cannot be done alone. Along with committee members we will be looking for donations for the auction. Amy Timeus will be the Auction Chair and will be looking for auction items. The theme for this year is "Roaring 20's Speakeasy". Remember April 25 is Rotarian's at Work Day! So be prepared to have fun while working towards a great cause!
5oth Annual Rotary District 5110 Conference: Join the Annual District Conference this May 28-31 as we see and are inspired by the many ways Rotarians have and continue to "Make Dreams Real" in their communities and in the world. We will celebrate these accomplishments in an atmosphere of fellowship and goodwill. This conference is combined with the District Training assembly on May 30. Also enjoy a different selection of "World Class Entertainment" every evening. See website for online registration and overnight accommodations. Conference will be held on the campus of Oregon State University. www.district5110.org/district/conference
Rotary and Gates Foundation announce US$355 million for polio eradication initiative: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced today that it is awarding Rotary a $255 million challenge grant, which Rotary and its supporters will match with $100 million over the next three years. The announcement came during Rotary's International Assembly to all incoming district governors and Rotary senior leaders.
Rotary Exchange Program - Host Families Needed: We are looking for host families for the 2009/2010 school year, if you, or someone you know may be interested in this program please talk to Jeff Davis.
Hosting a Youth Exchange student from another country can be a wonderful experience. It allows a host family to become familiar with another culture and provides the opportunity to share a young student's hopes and ambitions. Youth Exchange promises to enrich the lives of the student and every member of your family!
